The Brit Milah has been performed on the eighth day of the baby's life since Biblical times. In Jewish tradition, days begin and end at sunset. For example, if the baby is born at noon on Wednesday, the Brit Milah is scheduled for the following Wednesday. If he is born at ten o'clock at night, the Brit Milah is held on the following Thursday. The baby's health is paramount. If there are any medical issues, the Brit Milah is postponed until the baby is well. We can't actually schedule the Brit Milah until your son is born, but I would be happy to talk to you before the birth. I often consult with future parents who don't yet know whether they're having a son or daughter. Many parents make me the third phone call when a boy is born (after both set of grandparents) so that we can schedule the Brit Milah at a time that works for everyone. I look forward to getting to know you and working together to create a ceremony that welcomes your son into the community of the Jewish people. ..............................................................................................................................................
